Your first step toward a career path

Vocational Assessment establishes the first step on the path to your success by determining which program activities are right for you. During the session, you'll be tested on reading and math abilities, learn about job qualification requirements, and explore employment opportunities that match your interests.

Professional staff will discuss any potential barriers to employment and connect you with available support. By the end of the day, you and your assessor will review your test results, explore career pathways, and set two employment goals to pursue during your time in the program.

Skills assessed

  • Math Ability Arithmetic, decimals, fractions, and percentages
  • Language & Reading Comprehension, vocabulary, and sentence skills

1 Introduction

Overview of the assessment process and what the results mean for your program plan.

2 Testing

Timed and untimed assessments covering math, reading, reasoning, and vocational interests.

3 Screening

Staff review results and discuss any employment barriers and support services available to you.

4 Goal Setting

Together with staff, you'll identify career pathways and set two employment goals for your program.

Set yourself up for success

A little preparation goes a long way. Participants who arrive rested, on time, and with the right documents get more out of the session. Approach the assessment with confidence — there are no wrong answers, and the results are used to help you, not judge you.

  • Get adequate rest the night before
  • Arrange childcare and transportation in advance
  • Eat breakfast — it is a full-day session
  • Bring a valid photo ID and your GN6006 Service Referral Form
  • Bring reading glasses if you need them
  • Plan your travel route and arrive on time

Tips for test day

  • Read all directions carefully before starting each section
  • Work at a steady pace — don't rush or dwell too long on one question
  • Answer based on your honest interests, not what you think sounds best
  • Ask staff if you have questions at any point during the session
